DESIGN::A FORMER EAST VILLAGE SYNAGOGUE TRANSFORMS TO A MODERN LIVING SPACE
NYTimes Style Section features the desirable home of Sustainable NYC owner, Dominque Camacho along with her husband, Gary Hirschkron, president of AXA Partners. Camacho found the former synagogue and fell hard for the old architecture and striking limestone façade. After purchasing the synagogue in 2007, the couple decided to take on the hefty task of completely renovating the entire space. For that they hired Manifold Architecture Studio, a young firm in Brooklyn founded by Philipp and Kit von Dalwig who work primarily to strategize environmental design solutions. The outcome is a modern haven of subtle design elements mixed with elaborate fixtures that'll make anyone ask "when can I move in?"

Gary is not her "husband". He left his wife and two children to live with her and to pay for her dream of living in a synagogue. He evicted his son from a condo in Oregon and will not pay for that son's education.
