In the new issue of Interview, writer Armistead Maupin gets a few words with Milk director, Gus Van Sant. He talks about what lead him to the making of the film, starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, that chronicles the story of the first openly gay person to be elected to a public office in the United States, when he took his post on the San Francisco board of city supervisors in January 1977.
