To my fellow New Yorkers who've opted to stay behind and babysit the city, I offer a list of things to do this weekend that'll make you happy you stayed behind!
FRIDAY
Save your energy, you have a long weekend ahead of you! Give Frying Pan a try, where you can sit on the water in a lightship boat at Pier 66 while sipping on mojitos and noshing on seasonal bar & grill tapas.

SATURDAY
Support and stock up on local produce at any of the Greenmarket Farmers Market locations (preferably the one in McCarren Park, where I will be working!). It's the perfect place to get all your ingredients for those BBQ's you'll be attending on the 4th!
Or, if you rather a day in the sun, take the Q train all the way down to Coney Island, where you can check out the Freakshow and eat mangos on a stick with cayenne pepper. Finish the day off on the Cyclone ride, but hold on tight! It's still a preserved wooden roller coaster, therefore, an extremely bumpy ride!
Saturday night...
Head to my all-time favorite museum, P.S. 1 in Long Island City, for the Warm Up summer series kickoff featuring another favorite, Glasser.
SUNDAY, FOURTH OF JULY
Snag a seat and some outdoor dining at Robert Deniro's Tribeca restaurant venture, Locanda Verde. Watch the minimal crowds go by with some sidewalk seating, whilst you enjoy Sheep's Milk Ricotta with sea salt and herbs ($12) along with a tall glass of Prosecco Valdobiaddene Drusian Brut ($11), then some Roasted Sea Scallops with farro piccolo, almonds and tomato ($28) for dinner.
Every New Yorker at one point must attend Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks display along the West Side highway. It's our right as New Yorkers to bask in the glory of living in this lively city, punctuated by an explosive display of bright lights and sparkles.
For some post firework fun and continuous cocktail indulging, head over to the newly reopened Hudson Sky Terrace at the Hudson Hotel.
If the Hudson Hotel is not right for you and you're looking for a place a little more down tempo, yet still nice, head over to The Standard hotel's Biergarten
Enjoy the suggestions. And have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July!
