Inspiration Friday: Backstage at Mens John Galliano Show
Here are some highlights from backstage at the Men's John Galliano show. The forces of creativity and beauty at best.

Eat, Pray, Love
Some would agree with me when I say that after reading the book, Eat, Pray, Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert, they had an a-ha moment. It's a fantastically written book about a woman who goes through a life altering experience traveling throughout Italy, India, and Indonesia, in hopes of finding some clarity in her life. Since the book has been made into a film, starring Julia Roberts, I'm counting the days till it hits theaters on August 13th!
(p.s. the song in the trailer is by Florence & The Machine called "Dog Days Are Over")

Star Wars X Band Of Outsiders and Margiela by John Woo
Star Wars has been inspiration to Hong Kong based designer and illustrator John Woo to create a series of work. “He Wears It” features some of the most known Star Wars characters dressed up in hype designers clothes. Amongst them we found Darth Vader dressing Band Of Outsiders and Jar Jar Binks wearing Maison Martin Margiela.

Weekend To Do: The Kids Are All Right, Directed by Lisa Cholodenko
If not for the cast alone, the plot line in The Kids Are All Right is enough reason to see it, which seems utterly hilarious. The story is about two children, parented by a lesbian couple (played by Annette Benning and Julianne Moore) conceived by artificial insemination who decide to bring their birth father (Mark Ruffalo) into their family life. Directed by Lisa Cholodenko, who loosely based the film on her own life, the film has opened to critic praise. Done and done.
Kitsuné Presents SP/SU 2011
I believe that Kitsuné is a good representation of understated cool for menswear. Now presenting their new Spring/Summer 2011 Collection, entitled “Reporter”, the Parisian brand keep it classic with their very own added twist.
"Kitsuné Spring-Summer 2011 collection is inspired by the movie “Profession : Reporter” (The Passenger – 1975) by Michelangelo Antonioni, with Jack Nicholson and Maria Schneider. Globetrotter style garments are the main pieces of the collection, elegant fabrics with parisian style silhouette, very fresh and colorfull, classic dress-code with modern fitting…”

Introducing The Wild
My wonderfully talented friend and photographer, Giovanna Badilla, just launched her first magazine, The Wild, to rave reviews. They feature articles on everything from topical world issues to fashion and music.
I'm so excited about this, as her and her collaborators have put so much into it. And the outcome, amazing. Congrats, Gio!

Restaurant Week NYC
Pictured: A Voce
Restaurant Week is the much anticipated annual event in which dozens upon dozens of noteworthy restaurants take part in discounted and prix fixe deals all throughout NYC. And as the event draws to a close (July 25th), I highly recommend taking advantage of any of the short-lived deals.
See the list below!

Hedi Slimane Diary
I do admire the framing in the photos taken by artist Hedi Slimane. And his new adds to his diary are a pretty good depiction of that.

Fiona Apple "Criminal" Directed by Mark Romanek
Recently, I was reminded how much I love the video for Fiona Apple's "Criminal," directed by Mark Romanek. The video caught attention (probably for the same reasons American Apparel catches attention) for it's suggestive explicitness that sparks a bit of controversy. However, viewing the video again, also reminds me how great the set design is furnished by vintage pieces in a 1970s space with art deco inspired design. Enjoy.

Civia Cycles
One day, in my future home, I hope to have a room filled with a collection of all types of bicycles paneled by vintage whitewash wood walls. Sort of like Jay Leno's affinity for cars, except mine would be more eco-friendly. That said, I would definitely add this bike designed by Civia Loring, to the collection.

Gaultier Paris Fall 2010
Can this be inspiration Tuesday? If so, then I feel these pictures might do some justice, taken from the Gaultier Paris Fall 2010 fashion show. I think the head pieces really seal the deal!

A Shaded View...
From time to time, I think it's good to mix it up between everyday wear and items that push your limits and force you to be a bit more edgy. And one way to do that is Venus Sunglasses by Nooka, inspired by faceted gems. "The frames follow the Nooka gem inspired shape, seen in both the zem and strip collections. The polished stainless steel and silver mirror finishes bring a sense of luxury to the line that embodies technology and futurism."

TASCHEN Books: Kate Moss by Mario Testino
Add this to the coffee table "want list"
"Mario Testino is recognised as the ultimate fashion photographer of his generation but his pictures of Kate Moss transcend fashion. The consequence of two decades of extraordinary friendship, and phenomenal glamour, this iconic collaboration is an intimate insight into the lives and minds of two of the world’s definitive style leaders."

Malibu Flash Mob in City Hall Park
I just worked on this shoot. It was a planned performance setup by Malibu Rum that looked like an impromptu dance party involving choreographed dancers and surprised onlookers! It was so much fun to work on.

BowWow Ballet Flat by Moschino for Kartell
Here's the latest addition to Kartell's plastic footwear collection. Made from a non-toxic thermoplastic technopolymer that is 100% recyclable, the BowWow, available to the public in early 2011, is a follow up to Starck's Mademoiselle chair for Kartell upholstered in Moschino fabrics.
Love.

Style Studio: Todd Selby
Wonder what the inside of artist Todd Selby's brain looks like? Well, he's hoping that his living and work space gives a pretty good idea of what that might look like: part chaos, part intricate styling.
Selby, best known for his blog, The Selby, exposes the interiors of various taste makers who use their homes as a way of displaying their personal taste and reflections. I love The Selby, and always find inspiration from featured artists. And this video, provided by Style.com, introduces us to the man behind the camera.
Foodie Paradiso: Paso Robles, CA
Before reading this recent article in W Magazine, I had no idea that Paso Robles, California, was ground to so many emerging farmers and local crop enthusiasts. But Robles is proving to be the perfect example of farming local and retaining the "farm to table" cred. Below, a few images from some of the local farmers and chefs who mainly source their ingredients from them. All the more reason to support this evolving movement of shopping local!

Acne Spring/Summer 2011 Menswear Presentation
What a great spin on showing a collection! Acne held their presentation during men's fashion week at Le Chateaubriand restaurant in Paris.
Lusting for Mid-Century Modern Estate
Can you honestly believe that this became what you see below? Believe it! It's an incredible display of craftsmanship and innovation, guided by visionary. This little gem resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is actually rather affordable. My favorite elements have to be the wood used throughout the house, as well as that mid-room fireplace. Oh, and the view!

I Am Love, Starring Tilda Swinton
Welcome back, readers! I hope your recovery from the 4th is going well! To kick off getting back on the posting wagon, I bring you the trailer for I Am Love, starring the oh-so lovely Tilda Swinton, which is out in select theaters. Really, I don't think I've ever seen her in a film I didn't like. And I believe this one will be no different. The score alone seems powerful.
"Emma (Tilda Swinton), the matriarch of a wealthy Milanese family, lives in a carefully ordered world where her duty towards husband and children dominates. But a chance encounter ignites long repressed passions and sets her on a journey of sexual awakening."

NYC Staycation Guide: 4th of July!
To my fellow New Yorkers who've opted to stay behind and babysit the city, I offer a list of things to do this weekend that'll make you happy you stayed behind!
FRIDAY
Save your energy, you have a long weekend ahead of you! Give Frying Pan a try, where you can sit on the water in a lightship boat at Pier 66 while sipping on mojitos and noshing on seasonal bar & grill tapas.
Site::Frying Pan
SATURDAY
Support and stock up on local produce at any of the Greenmarket Farmers Market locations (preferably the one in McCarren Park, where I will be working!). It's the perfect place to get all your ingredients for those BBQ's you'll be attending on the 4th!
Or, if you rather a day in the sun, take the Q train all the way down to Coney Island, where you can check out the Freakshow and eat mangos on a stick with cayenne pepper. Finish the day off on the Cyclone ride, but hold on tight! It's still a preserved wooden roller coaster, therefore, an extremely bumpy ride!
Saturday night...
Head to my all-time favorite museum, P.S. 1 in Long Island City, for the Warm Up summer series kickoff featuring another favorite, Glasser.
SUNDAY, FOURTH OF JULY
Snag a seat and some outdoor dining at Robert Deniro's Tribeca restaurant venture, Locanda Verde. Watch the minimal crowds go by with some sidewalk seating, whilst you enjoy Sheep's Milk Ricotta with sea salt and herbs ($12) along with a tall glass of Prosecco Valdobiaddene Drusian Brut ($11), then some Roasted Sea Scallops with farro piccolo, almonds and tomato ($28) for dinner.
Every New Yorker at one point must attend Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks display along the West Side highway. It's our right as New Yorkers to bask in the glory of living in this lively city, punctuated by an explosive display of bright lights and sparkles.
For some post firework fun and continuous cocktail indulging, head over to the newly reopened Hudson Sky Terrace at the Hudson Hotel.
If the Hudson Hotel is not right for you and you're looking for a place a little more down tempo, yet still nice, head over to The Standard hotel's Biergarten
Enjoy the suggestions. And have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July!
