ART OPENING::MOELLER SNOW GALLERY 'IT'S FUN TO DO BAD THINGS'

The Moeller Snow gallery is spacious and white. A light air permeates throughout the space while artists, friends, and collectors talk casually and greet the artist of the night, Max Snow. Indian men play sitar in the background, while trendy spectators seem cheerful and eager to speak to the budding artist. However, the work that backdrops everyone’s conversation is anything but light.

Upon each wall is a designated photo taken by Snow. “It’s Fun To Do Bad Things” is the title of the show. “The phrase actually comes from a news interview with Latarian Milton, a seven year old boy who stole his grandmother's car.” said Moeller Snow affiliate Karline Moeller. “Originally broadcasted on a local Florida TV station, the interview quickly gained popularity thanks to YouTube.,”

I ask Moeller who are the subjects in the daunting photographs, “Snow photographed three groups of extremists, the Ku Klux Klan in Kentucky and in Indiana, Latin gangs in downtown Los Angeles as well as black metal musicians in Scandinavia.”

Moeller Snow is a new gallery, no more than a month into it’s opening. And with Snow opening the floor for what some may think of as too controversial, it’ll undeniably attract artist(s) who may feel timid about their work’s extremities. “The goals of the Moeller Snow gallery are to exhibit both established and emerging artists in a no bullshit manner,” said Moeller. Snow knowingly brought a spectator into a world of feared vigilantes, yet managed to bring more attention to the image rather than what the subjects represent, particularly with the Scandinavian musicians, whose photographs are rich in color and intimidating in their life size printing. So, I ask Moeller, what will this do for Snow? “I believe this is the first look at more to come.”
