MUSIC::EL PERRO DEL MAR & LYKKE LI, BOWERY BALLROOM
Last night’s El Perro Del Mar/Lykke Li concert exceeded all expectations. Lykke Li was vivacious and full of non-stop energy that kept the crowd enthralled with the petite artist, who jumped around tirelessly while singing and occasionally slamming a snare with her electric hand. While headliner El Perro Del Mar quietly came on stage afterwards. So quietly, that the talking crowd didn’t even notice she was there until she opened up with “party”, only to be followed by “Dog” and other songs which were later on accompanied by the rest of her band.
The emergence of a firecracker like Li and a subtle and obviously shy Sarah Assbring (El Perro Del Mar) was the perfect mix to keep you amped through out the show. And if you were there early enough, you didn’t miss the performance by up-and-coming songstress Anna Ternheim, who was just as quirky as her fellow vocalists, and will surely headline a show in the future.
Ending the night, Lykke Li popped back onstage and joined El Perro Del Mar for a rendition of Wendy Rene’s oldie “After Laughter (Comes Tears)”. The delightful duet ended the night gleefully, as one crowd member put it “the teacher and the rebel student finally come together in the end”.
