Johan Renck is one of my favorite directors. Being surrounded by his genius is rewarding in a lot of ways. He's absolutely influential in my work & the work of so many aspiring artists out there.
He is currently signed under RSA Films but works mainly with his own prod.co, RAF, located in Sweden. Along with fellow RSA director Jonas Akerlund (Most well known for Prodigy's "Smack my bitch up" vid..)

Okay, so lately I’ve had a small obsession with Swedish brother & sister duo electro band, The Knife (okay, major obsession!) So I’ve done a little research about these mysterious enigmas & here is just one article I found interesting out of the select few.
For those of you unaware, Olof Dreijer (the boy) is also a well know DJ who’s been spinning “minimal techno around Europe for the last two years”. Don't expect to hear him play The Knife though...he said it makes him feel "embarressed".

The ultimate tool shed, compartmentalized into various sections so everything can be seen individually & appreciated. There is a space for a shovel, a birdhouse, even a secret loft for children. Designer, Nils Holger Moorman creates a tool shed like no other. The shed was made for Aicher (german), inspired by “Walden” or, “Life in the woods” is the name of a story from the American writer and philosopher Henry David Thoreau, written in the mid 19th century, which describes his life and his relationship with nature.

Back on track

Amid the holiday season, I’ve become overwhelmingly occupied with things to do. Unfortunately, I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to, to update PLATFORM on a daily basis. But it’s a little bit calmer now, so I can finally get back to business!

This weekend, I finally ventured out to the deep end of Brooklyn; a once foreign area to me, called Flatbush. There, I paid a visit to the Brooklyn Museum, something I had been longing to do since I arrived in New York.
When entering, I decided to start at the very top of the building, working my way down.
I began with "American Identities" which is a vast collection of American art. Personally, colonial work does not appeal to me. However, I can definitely appreciate the craftsmanship involved.
Then I headed into "Visible Storage” which is all Tiffany glass and lamps, examples of contemporary industrial design and furniture, which I enjoyed very, very much (Took a photo w/ my camera phone but still trying to figure out how to upload it!).
Then we stepped into the main attraction.
First up was Ron Mueck. When first entering the room, you’re overwhelmed with desire to look everywhere. The room is large yet seems small in comparison to these overwhelmingly large sculptures, ranging from 33 cm to 63 ft long in size. The well thought out detail of each and every sculpture is brilliantly achieved for it's realism and in my opinion, can only be fully appreciated in person. Overall, his exhibit was everything I hoped. A fantastical journey & a peak into what a world would be like with if there were giant torsos, faces, and gargantuan newborns.
Next up was Annie Leibovitz. I've always been a fan of her work, but I had never considered her to be one of my favorite photographers. I've always thought of her as more of a documentarian & photo icon, mostly well know for her captivating celebrity images. However, viewing her work this weekend in it's entirety has broadened my view of this prolific artist. She’s not only a photographer with well-publicized portraits of Demi Moore, but she’s also one of the most thoughtful photographers out there. She has an innate sense for timing and is able to capture some of the most emotional and personal moments. I.E, Images of her longtime companion Susan Sontag through her stages of cancer. I am much more appreciative of her after this weekend, and I’ll be sure to keep an eye on any new developments she may have.
Overall, the exhibit for both artists was well worth the trip!!

::Steven Klein::

Steven Klein is one of my favorite photographers. I say that with confidence because art is subjective and no one has to agree with my opinions, but everyone has that privilege. You may know Mr. Klein for his transgressive style and much publicized editorial with Madonna & her wild black Stallions (featured in W magazine) but Klein has a diverse sense of style, being able to conquer both major high fashion layouts as well as bold images of young boys in military gear "getting it on". Here is a taste (shown above)

Politics: Nancy Pelosi

Last night I saw a special about the most fascinating people of 2006 with host Barbara Walters. Ranking in at # 1 as the most fascinating person was house democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi. Although the interview was short, it was definitely inspiring to see a woman with so much authority & power all while making positive decisions for the good of the people. Regardless of gender, Nancy Pelosi has the right issues at hand.

I have no doubt that I most likely have Mayan ancestry. The fact that my sisters and I can actually run up Mayan ruins but lack agility in every other part of our physical lives, is no coincidence. Either way, I'm actually looking forward to seeing this film. Other than Mr. Gibson's wacky blurb about his anti-Semitic beliefs & recent boozed up photos that have surfaced, the man still manages to execute (no pun intended) a good story!

JOHN LATHAM: TIME BASE AND THE UNIVERSE
October 29, 2006 - January 8, 2007

(Long Island City, NY – August 10, 2006) P.S.1 proudly presents Time Base and the Universe, an exhibition of approximately thirty works by the late British artist John Latham (1921-2006). Conceived with the artist prior to his death in January 2006, the show surveys the major stages of his career, spanning over fifty years. Time Base and the Universe is on view in the second floor Main Gallery from October 29, 2006 through January 8, 2007.

"John Latham is an artist's artist," notes David Thorp, curator of the exhibition. "His significance places him between Joseph Bueys and Robert Rauschenberg as someone whose ideas and influence have helped to shape late twentieth century art."

With his uncompromising endeavor to explore some of the most complex cosmological ideas through art, and due to his criticism of the art market, he was both acclaimed and vilified in his lifetime. Visceral and enigmatic, his work encompassed sculpture, performance, installation, film, conceptual, and book art. Creating a unified theory of existence, Latham combined art, science, and philosophy, thus challenging the views of professionals in each field. "even tstructu re" was the main sustaining principle of his art and suggests that the most basic component of reality is not the particle, as understood through physics, but a "least event" – or the shortest departure from a state of nothing.

The "Rocky Horror" of our generation is gracing us with,yet again, another extravagent cinema performance. Directed by John Cameron Mitchell, this film is playing AM shows at the IFC Center (of course). So, don't forget to feather your hair and rock out in your most sparkly lipstick.
